PREVIEW | #1 Women's Soccer Set to Host Fort Lewis and Adams State

This Week's Games
  • The #1 University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team will be at home this weekend for a pair of RMAC matchups.
  • On Friday, October 11, #1 UCCS will play Fort Lewis College (FLC) at 5 p.m. inside Mountain Lion Stadium.
  • On Sunday, October 13, #1 UCCS will take on Adams State University (ASU) at 12 p.m. inside Mountain Lion Stadium.
Game Coverage Last Time Out
  • #1 UCCS won both games over the weekend which gives them 10 consecutive wins to start the season. The Mountain Lions are now 10-0 with a 6-0 record in the RMAC.
  • On Friday the Mountain Lions took care of Westminster College (WC) as they again did not allow a goal, which marks the sixth game this year they have blanked their opponent.
  • In the first half, redshirt junior Shanade Hopcroft got things going with fantastic header off an assist from freshman Mitsy Ramirez. Neither team was able to add any more goals and the half would end 1-0.
  • The second half featured more dominance from UCCS as the defense continued to flex their muscles, allowing only three shots on goal in the game.
  • The game was still 1-0 until the 56th minute when freshman Tanner Sanders got behind the defense for a goal off an assist from Hopcroft, making the score 2-0 Mountain Lions. Then in the 85th minute, sophomore Savannah Mills added a third goal for good measure, again off an assist from Hopcroft.
  • UCCS outshot WC 13-10 including 7-3 in shots on goal, the first shots on goal they had allowed in two games, as they claimed the victory 3-0.
  • Sunday's matchup proved to be more competitive as Dixie State University (DSU) gave UCCS all they could handle.
  • In the first half, the Mountain Lions took an early lead as Hopcroft found the net off an assist from Mills to make the score 1-0 after one half of play.
  • However, DSU came alive in the second half as they were able to score the equalizing goal off a corner kick only three minutes in. That marked the first goal the Mountain Lions had allowed in three games.
  • Nevertheless, UCCS would show why they are the #1 team in the nation as Hopcroft, again, was able to find the net off a beautiful free kick from 30 yards out, making the score 2-1 UCCS with about 15 minutes left to play.
  • The Mountain Lion defense held strong for those 15 minutes and UCCS took home their 10th win in a row.
RMAC Record/Standings
  • After two more wins, UCCS remains atop the RMAC with their 10-0 overall record and 6-0 RMAC record. Rounding out the top five are: 2) Colorado School of Mines, 3) Regis University, 4) Dixie State University, and 5) Fort Lewis College.
The Series
  • Against FLC, UCCS has an unimpressive record of 4-15. However, UCCS has won the two most recent matchups between the teams by a combined score of 6-2.
  • Against ASU, the Mountain Lions have a better record at 7-4-3, including 6-3-1 in their last 10 matchups. In the most recent game between the two teams, UCCS won by a score of 3-1.
Scouting the Opponent
  • FLC currently has an overall record of 3-3-2 this season, with a 2-1-2 record in the RMAC. The Skyhawks have scored eight goals on 95 shots (47 on goal) and allowed 11 goals this season.
  • FLC also has seven assists, 25 corner kicks, one penalty goal and a shots on goal percentage of nearly 50 percent (49.5).
  • Individually, Emma Patron and Corinne Sanderson lead the offense for the Skyhawks. Patron leads the team in goals (two) assists (two) and points (six). Sanderson is tied for second on the team in goals (one) with five other players, but she is toed with Patron for the lead in assists with two for her four points.
  • Keeper Britt Blomso has spent the majority of the time in goal for FLC as she has 25 of their 38 team saves and a save percentage of 71 percent.
  • ASU currently has an overall 3-5, which includes a 1-4 record in the RMAC. Through eight games, the Grizzlies have scored four goals on 47 shots (21 on goal) and allowed 12 goals on 52 shots on goal.
  • The Grizzlies also have two assists and 25 corner kicks this year.
  • Individually, Jordyn Maes leads the team with two goals and one assists for her five points this season. Kaylee Uebel and Sydney Wiedeman have the other two goals for ASU while Maya Mau owns the team's second assist.
  • Goalkeeper Corri Zaiger has played all eight games for ASU and has accumulated 40 saves and a save percentage of 77 percent.
Hot Takes
  • Three Mountain Lions found the net last weekend as freshman Tanner Sanders scored the fifth goal of her young UCCS career, which is tied for the fourth most by a freshman in UCCS women's soccer history. Sanders currently ranks third on the team in points with 12.
  • Sophomore Savannah Mills scored her second goal of the season and the 10th of her UCCS career. That means that Mills has officially cracked the top-10 for goal scorers in UCCS history as she now ranks 10th all-time.
  • Redshirt junior Shanade Hopcroft had a career weekend as she was involved in every goal scored by the Mountain Lions. Hopcroft had one goal and two assists against WC and scored both goals for UCCS against DSU.
  • Hopcroft's three goals and two assists gave her eight points in total for the two games, a season high for her and for any individual player on UCCS.
  • Defense was again a major part of UCCS's success as they recorded their sixth shutout of the season. For keeper Mollee Swift, that marks her third individual shutout of the season.
  • UCCS allowed only six shots on goal over the course of the two games last weekend, which means that the Mountain Lions have not allowed more than 10 shots on goal in a single weekend series all year.
  • The most shots on goal UCCS has given up in a single two game series is nine.
  • UCCS also allowed one goal on Sunday, which was the first allowed in three games and only the fourth all season.
Award Winners
  • For the second time in three weeks, Shanade Hopcroft has been named the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week. Hopcroft had a weekend for the books as she tallied three goals and two assists for the Mountain Lions, effectively putting her name on all five goals scored by UCCS over the weekend.
  • Hopcroft scored both game-winning goals over the weekend, including her 30-yard strike to claim the victory over DSU, capping off a fantastic performance for the redshirt junior.
Weather
  • The forecast for Colorado Springs, Colo. on Friday, October 11 shows clear skies but a high temperature of only 45 degrees. The low is expected to drop to 21 degrees and wind will gust up to eight mils per hour.
  • On Sunday, October 13 the forecast shows mostly sunny skies and a high of 65 degrees. Wind is expected to gust up to nine miles per hour.
RMAC Leaders
  • As a team, UCCS ranks first in the RMAC in goals allowed (four), scoring average (2.80), opponents scoring average (.40), average margin of victory (2.40), penalty goals (two, tied) and save percentage (83.9 percent).
  • UCCS also ranks second in goals scored (28), third in shots (181) and seventh in corner kicks (46).
  • Individually, four Mountain Lions remain in the top-10 of the RMAC for various statistical categories.
  • Shanade Hopcroft ranks first in shots per game and shots on goal per game (4.20, 1.80), first in goals scored and goals scored per game (six, .60, tied), first in points and points per game (16, 1.60), first in game winning goals (three, tied), second total shots (42), third in total shots on goal (18, tied) and third in assists and assists per game (four, .40).
  • Kaitlin Hinkle also ranks first in goals and goals per game (six, .60, tied), as well as first in game winning goals (three, tied). She also ranks second in points and points per game (14, 1.40), seventh in shots on goal per game (1.20) and eighth in total shots on goal (12).
  • Tanner Sanders ranks third in points and points per game (12, 1.20, tied) and fourth in goals scored and goals scored per game (five, .50).
  • Keeper Mollee Swift ranks first in the RMAC in goals allowed average (.39), first in shutouts (three), second in goals allowed (three) and second in save percentage (85.7 percent)
UCCS Under Head Coach Sian Hudson
  • The Mountain Lions are now 43-8-4 under coach Hudson 10 games into her third season. This 10-0 start continues to be the best start in program history. In conference play, UCCS is now 28-3 with coach Hudson at the helm.
Upcoming Games
  • Next weekend #1 UCCS will be on the road for a pair of conference games, one of which could be a top-25 matchup.
  • On Friday, October 18, #1 UCCS will take on #16 Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo. at 5 p.m.
  • On Sunday, October 20, #1 UCCS will be in Lakewood, Colo. taking on Colorado Christian University at 1 p.m.
