ALAMOSA, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team suffered a 3-2 loss Sunday afternoon at Adams State University. The setback moves UCCS to 2-6-1 on the season and 1-5-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Sunday's win for ASU was their first of the season as they improve to 1-6-1 overall.
Adams State's Dylan Udero put the Grizzlies on the scoreboard for the first goal of the game in the 34
th minute. Two minutes later Pablo Fernandez gave the Grizzlies a 2-0 lead.
Trailing 2-0 at halftime, the Grizzlies helped UCCS get on the scoreboard on an own goal in the 51
st minute. The Mountain Lions mirrored ASU's own goal with their own score to boost the Grizzlies lead to 3-1.
Freshman forward
Alex Daseler recorded his first career goal for UCCS with 21 minutes left in regulation.
Alex VonHolle tallied his fourth assist of the season on Daseler's goal.
The Mountain Lions attempt for a second straight comeback from a two-goal deficit was thwarted as ASU held them scoreless in the last 21 minutes.
UCCS dominated the Grizzlies offensively, out-shooting ASU 18-8, including 10-5 shots on goal. The Mountain Lions also held a 15-1 advantage on corner kicks. Thirteen of the Mountain Lions 15 corner kicks were taken in the second half.
Zane Baumgardt registered a game high five shot attempts with three shots landing on goal. VonHolle and Daseler each added three shots with two landing on frame from VonHolle.
UCCS will return home Oct. 11 when they take on Fort Lewis College at 7:30 p.m., and Oct. 13 against Colorado Mesa University at 2:30 p.m.
