Men's Soccer Takes Down Fort Lewis 2-0

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team has now won two of their last three games as they took down Fort Lewis College (FLC) on Friday night. In a game that was very well played by UCCS, the Mountain Lions defeated FLC 2-0.

UCCS (3-6-1, 2-5 RMAC) outshot FLC (6-2-3, 4-2-1 RMAC) 14-13 overall, but dominated in shots on goal at 7-2. This was the Mountain Lions' best defensive, and perhaps best all-around performance of the season. Alex VonHolle led UCCS in shots with four including one on goal while Kolby Raineri, Adam Baldwin, Parker McClure and Liam McGuire combined for nine shots and six shots on goal.

The Mountain Lions came out with a sense of urgency in the first half as they were pushing the pace right from the get go. It paid off as VonHolle was able to get behind the defense and score the game's first goal off a nice assist from Baldwin, making the score 1-0 only six minutes in.

In the second half, UCCS continued to pressure the Skyhawk defense and it paid dividends as McGuire was able to head in a goal in the 60th minute off an assist from VonHolle, making the score 2-0 Mountain Lions with 30 minutes to go.

The UCCS defense showed out for those 30 minutes as they only allowed one shot on goal, propelling the Mountain Lions to their third win of the season.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Jake Zink got his first start of the year, played well as he recorded his first shutout and tallied two saves.

Going into this game, FLC was the held the third spot in the RMAC, making this a crucial win for UCCS going forward.

The Mountain Lions are back in action on Sunday, October 13 as the will take on RMAC rival Colorado Mesa University. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m. inside Mountain Lion Stadium.
