COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer team split the weekend after a 2-0 loss to Colorado Mesa University Sunday afternoon at Mountain Lion Stadium.
The Mountain Lions (3-7-1, 2-6-0 RMAC) and the Mavericks (7-2-2, 5-1-2 RMAC) played a physical match on Sunday as the Mountain Lions came to out-shoot CMU 11-10. Both UCCS and CMU put up five shots on frame with UCCS holding the advantage in corner kicks 4-3. UCCS'

Alex VonHolle had a team high three shots with five different Mountain Lions recording a shot on goal during the match.
In the opening 45 minutes, the Mountain Lions and Mavericks held each other in check for a majority of the half as UCCS registered two shots on goal in the first 15 minutes of the half, followed by CMU recording two shots on frame of their own. Neither team was able to find an opening until the 36
th minute when the Mavericks broke the scoreless tie with CMU's Raymond Jackson finding Peter Vandam for the 1-0 lead.
Trailing by one, UCCS continued to put pressure on CMU goalkeeper Brenden Brown as they recorded five shots and three of their five shots on goal, but Brown kept the Mountain Lions out of net.
Later in the second half, the Mavericks tacked on a second goal in the 82
nd minute to bring the final score to 2-0.
CMU came to hold a slight advantage in saves 5-3 as UCCS goalkeeper
Jake Zink tallied his second consecutive start and moves to 1-1-0 on the season.
The Mountain Lions will continue their home stand next weekend as they host Adams State University for a 6 p.m. match on Friday, Oct. 18 at Mountain Lion Stadium.
