Men's Soccer scores three goals in five minutes in dominant win over ASU

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer earned their fourth win of the season on Friday night as they dominated Adams State University (ASU). After three second half goals, the Mountain Lions took home the victory by a score of 3-1.

UCCS (4-7-1, 3-6-0 RMAC) berated ASU (1-9-1, 1-7-1 RMAC) with shots as they outshot the Grizzlies 33-7, including 14-4 in shots on goal. Adam Baldwin paced the offense for UCCS with nine total shots and five shots on goal. Close behind him was Alex VonHolle with seven total shots including five on goal. Jack Mills, Liam McGuire and Haiko Hovak all recorded three shots in the game as well, with Mills adding two shots on goal and McGuire adding one.

In the first half, UCCS pushed the pace on offense as they tallied 17 shots to ASU's four, including eight shots on goal. Baldwin recorded six shots and three on goal in the half while VonHolle and McGuire each had two shots with one on goal. However, neither team was able to score and the half would end 0-0.

The second half featured all the score as ASU struck first in the 55th minute off a goal from Dylan Udero, making the score 1-0 Grizzlies.

After an ASU player received a red card in the 73rd minute, UCCS took advantage of being a man up on ASU. It started with a goal from Mills in the 78th minute, assists to both VonHolle and McGuire, to even the score at 1-1. Not three minutes later, Igor O'Rear rifled a shot in the box to the back of the net to give UCCS the lead 2-1, assists to both McGuire and Sam Bonano. Then in the 83rd minute, VonHolle put the nail in the coffin as he was able to find the net off an assist from McGuire.

UCCS was able to fend off a late corner kick from ASU and take home the victory 3-1.

Scott Jensen got the start in goal and registered three saves in his winning effort.

UCCS is back in action on Sunday, October 20 as they prepare to host Colorado State University – Pueblo. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. inside Mountain Lion Stadium.
