LAKEWOOD, Colo. – University of Colorado Colorado Springs Head Volleyball Coach
Chrissy Elder recorded her 100
th career win Friday night as she led the Mountain Lions to a 3-2 win at Colorado Christian University. The win completed the season sweep against the Cougars as UCCS won both matches in five sets. With tonight's win, UCCS improves to 9-11 on the season and 7-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The Mountain Lions led the match 2-0 after taking the first two sets 25-11 and 25-15, but CCU responded to tie the match in sets three and four, 18-25 and 12-25. UCCS owned the fifth set as they held the lead the entire set.
UCCS played set five nearly perfect, committing only three errors.
Raelynn Edge served up two aces as
Hannah Ammerman and
Grace Nelson tallied four and three kills, respectively.
Josie Russell added a kill in the set and paired up with
Taylor Smith to block a CCU attack.
Ammerman posted a match high 19 kills behind a solid .302 hitting percentage. Nelson chipped in 12 kills and committed only two errors on 21 attempts for a match high .476 hitting mark.
Russell was a force at the net with seven kills and six blocks, two of which were solo stops as she tallied 11 points.
Edge, who served three of the Mountain Lions four aces, added 29 set assists and five digs.
Three Mountain Lions posted double digit digs. Libero
Jordyn Kinsey led all players with 19 digs, while
Lauryn Shockley added 14 digs and
Madison McIntosh registered 10.
CCU was led by Cali Bahnsen's 12 kills and two blocks.
UCCS will take on No. 12 Regis University Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. from Regis Fieldhouse in Denver, Colo.
