PREVIEW | #1 Women's Soccer hosts Metro State for only matchup of the week

This Week's Games
  • The #1 University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team will be at home this weekend for their only matchup of the week.
  • On Saturday, October 26, #1 UCCS will play host to Metropolitan State University – Denver (MSU Denver) at 4 p.m. inside Mountain Lion Stadium.
Game Coverage Last Time Out
  • #1 UCCS continues to roll as they won both games last weekend to improve to 14-0 this season. The Mountain Lions got all they could handle against #14 Colorado School of Mines (CSM) on Friday then cruised past Colorado Christian University (CCU) on Sunday.
  • On Friday, UCCS faced their toughest opponent to date in CSM and were pushed to their limit. However, the Mountain Lions proved why they are the #1 team in the nation as they outlasted CSM 2-1 in double overtime.
  • In the first half, UCCS struggled offensively as they totaled two shots in the half to CSM's seven. CSM was the team pushing the pace as they took a 1-0 lead off a penalty kick in the 12th minute, the first goal UCCS has allowed in the first half all year.
  • Things changed quickly in the second half as Savannah Mills scored the equalizer in the 46th minute to make the score 1-1, and that's where regulation ended.
  • After a scoreless first overtime, Shanade Hopcroft found the net 30 seconds into the second overtime for UCCS' golden goal victory, assists to Tanner Sanders and Kaitlin Hinkle.
  • Keeper Mollee Swift tallied six crucial saves in the game as she is now 11-0-0 this season.
  • Sunday's matchup proved to be much less of a challenge as the Mountain Lions scored three goals in the first half and two in the second for their 5-0 win over CCU.
  • Hopcroft got things started with a goal in the 13th minute, assist to Tanner Sanders, and she would not be done as she went on to record two more goals for her first hat trick of the season, assists to Jaden Davis and Kendall Stevenson respectively for those two goals.
  • Taeya Schueppert scored the second goal of the game off a rebound to make the score 3-0 after one half.
  • Hopcroft's third goal came in the 56th minute and Davis added the final goal as she drove in a 25 yard strike to make the final score 5-0 UCCS.
  • Keeper Alexis Walker tallied four saves in the second half for UCCS.
RMAC Record/Standings
  • #1 UCCS remains in control of the RMAC with their 14-0-0 overall record and 10-0-0 conference record. The remaining teams in the top-five are: 2) Colorado School of Mines, 3) MSU Denver, 4) Regis University, 5) Westminster.
The Series
  • Against MSU Denver, UCCS has an all-time record of 4-9-1. However, UCCS has dominated the series recently as they have outscored MSU Denver by a combined score of 5-0 in their last two games, including a 3-0 shutout in the most recent matchup.
Scouting the Opponent
  • MSU Denver currently owns an overall record of 6-7-2 this season with a 5-3-2 record in the RMAC. The Roadrunners have scored 23 goals on 298 shots (133 on goal) and allowed 16 goals this season.
  • MSU Denver also has 17 assists, 85 corner kicks and a shots on goal percentage of 44.6 percent.
  • Individually, Gabriella Gamboa and Jordan Lewis lead the Roadrunner offense as they share the team lead in goals with four each.
  • Gamboa has the edge in points at 11 thanks to her team high three assists, while Lewis rnaks second in points with nine thanks to her one assist.
  • Goalkeeper Erica Torres has started every game in net for MSU Denver this season and has amassed 45 saves and a save percentage of 73.8 precent.
Hot Takes
  • Four different Mountain Lions found the net over the weekend as UCCS continues this dominant season.
  • Redshirt Junior Shanade Hopcroft registered four goals over the weekend, including the game winning golden goal against CSM and the first hat trick of the season for UCCS on Sunday. Those four goals give her 10 for the season which leads the team.
  • Sophomore Savannah Mills netted the equalizing goal against CSM on Friday for her fifth goal of the season. She ranks fourth on the team in both goals and points with five and 12 respectively.
  • Freshman Taeya Schueppert scored her first career goal for UCCS on Sunday against CCU, giving her three points this season.
  • Freshman Jaden Davis scored the final goal of the weekend on Sunday for her second goal of the season. She also tallied an assist in Sunday's win which gives her a season high three points for the weekend.
  • Four different Mountain Lions also tallied assists over the weekend. Freshmen Tanner Sanders and Kaitlin Hinkle both assisted on Hopcroft's golden goal against CSM..
  • Both Sanders and Hinkle now have 19 points on the season, which is second most on the team.
  • Freshman Tanner Sanders added her fifth assist of the season on Sunday, the second most on the team.
  • Sophomore Kendall Stevenson tallied her third assist in four games on Sunday as well, giving her five points this year.
  • Keeper Mollee Swift matched her season high in saves with six against CSM on Friday, giving her 27 total this season.
  • Keeper Alexis Walker improved her save percentage to 93.3 percent with her four saves against CCU as she and Swift combined for UCCS's eighth shutout of the year.
Award Winners
  • Shanade Hopcroft tabbed her third RMAC Offensive Player of the Week win for her outstanding performance last weekend. Hopcroft had four goals in the two games, including the game winning golden goal against CSM and the team's first hat trick of the season. She leads the team and conference in goals and points with 10 and 26 respectively.
  • Freshman Jaden Davis won her first career RMAC Defensive Player of the Week for her performance last week. Davis was a rock on the UCCS back line as she played over 150 minutes in the two games last weekend, including every minute (101) in the win over CSM. To top it off, Davis tallied an assist and a strike of a goal from 25 yards out against CCU for her three points.

  • The forecast for Colorado Springs, Colo. on Saturday, October 26 shows clear skies and a high of 62 degrees. Winds are expected to gust up to eight miles per hour.
RMAC Leaders
  • As a team, UCCS ranks first in the RMAC in goals scored (46), goals allowed (six), scoring average (3.286), opponents scoring average (.43), average margin of victory (2.86), assists (29), assists per game (2.071), points (121), points per game (8.64) and save percentage (87.2 percent).
  • UCCS also ranks third in shots per game (18.50) and shots on goal per game (8.57) and fourth in shots (259) and shots on goal (120).
  • Individually, Shanade Hopcroft is leading the RMAC in every statistical category except for assists, where she ranks second in total assists (six) and assists per game (.462). Hopcroft has 10 goals (.769 per game), five game wining goals (.385 per game), 26 points (2.00 per game) and has taken 53 shots (4.08 per game) and landed 25 shots on goal (1.92 per game), all of which lead the RMAC.
