No. 1 UCCS Silences CCU 5-0 for 14th Consecutive Win

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – On Sunday, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team silenced Colorado Christian University at a final score of 5-0 at Trailblazer Stadium to record their 14th consecutive win of the season at Trailblazer Stadium.

After defeating No. 14 Colorado School of Mines on Friday night in double overtime 2-1, No. 1 UCCS (14-0-0, 10-0-0 RMAC) went off for five scores against CCU (4-9-1, 2-7-1 RMAC) as the Mountain Lions registered their eighth shutout of the season. Defense did their part by limiting CCU to six shots in the contest, with freshman goalkeeper Mollee Swift improving to 11-0-0 after bagging one save in the first half, and sophomore goalkeeper Alexis Walker closing out the match in the second half with four saves to seal the UCCS shutout win. On the offensive side, the Mountain Lions tripled the Cougars shots 18-6 and more than doubled their shots on goal 11-5. Freshman Taeya Schueppert and redshirt junior Shanade Hopcroft led the offensive onslaught with a team high five shots as the freshman found the back of the net, and Hopcroft going off for six points and the hat trick.

It did not take the Mountain Lions long to settle in and find a rhythm on Sunday as UCCS scored twice within the first 15 minutes of the match, with both goals coming within 30 seconds of each other. Freshman Tanner Sanders fed Hopcroft in the 13th minute where she dribbled through the middle of the field to deliver the Mountain Lions' first goal for a 1-0 lead. Shortly after, Schueppert gathered a loose ball to then strike the bottom left corner for the 2-0 lead.

Later in the 19th minute, freshman Jaden Davis registered one of her three points in the match off a perfect cross to Hopcroft who headed in her second goal of the game, bringing the score 3-0 in favor of UCCS in the first half.

UCCS ended the first half by holding the Cougars to two shots as they out-shot CCU 8-2, allowing CCU to one shot on frame.

The offensive pressure resumed in the second half as Hopcroft secured her hat trick off a cross from Kendall Stevenson, as she tapped in to become just the third Mountain Lion to record a hat trick in program history.

After making an appearance earlier in the first half on an assist, Davis laid the game to rest with a strike from 25 yards out to record her second goal of the season and bring the contest to 5-0.

With a perfect 10-0-0 conference record, the Mountain Lions remain atop of the conference as they increase their conference points to 30, giving them a five-point cushion from CSM. UCCS remains in contention to host both a first round of RMAC Quarterfinals and  a round of RMAC Semifinals in the conference tournament.

No. 1 UCCS now returns home for an extra day of preparation as the Mountain Lions will have one game next weekend. In that game, UCCS will host Metropolitan State University-Denver for a 3 p.m. match on Sunday, Oct. 25 inside Mountain Lion Stadium.
