PREVIEW | #1 UCCS takes their 12-0 record to #14 Mines and CCU this weekend

This Week's Games
  • The #1 University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team will be on the road this week for a set of RMAC matchups, including a top-25 matchup.
  • On Friday, October 18, #1 UCCS will be in Golden, Colo. facing off against #14 Colorado School of Mines (CSM). The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
  • On Sunday, October 20, #1 UCCS takes on Colorado Christian University (CCU) in Lakewood, Colo. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Game Coverage Last Time Out
  • #1 UCCS remains perfect as they took down both Fort Lewis College (FLC) and Adams State University (ASU) over the weekend. The Mountain Lions are now 12-0 on the season and 8-0 in the RMAC.
  • UCCS was prolific on offense and dominant on defense as they outscored both teams 11-1 in the two games, the highest scoring weekend the team has had all year.
  • On Friday, UCCS seemed unbothered by the cold as they scored three goals in the first half followed by two more in the second half for their 5-0 shutout of FLC
  • Savannah Mills, Aleesa Muir and Kaitlin Hinkle all found the net in the first half, with assists going to Muir, Shanade Hopcroft and Kendall Stevenson respectively.
  • The second half was highlighted by a second goal for Mills in the 81st minute, assist to Hopcroft, and the final goal going to Tanner Sanders as time was running out.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Alexis Walker got the start in the game and played well as she recorded four saves in route to her second shutout of the season.
  • The game on Sunday was physical as both teams came out ready to play. However, UCCS continued their dominance as they blew out ASU 6-1.
  • Katie Puchino got things started in the second minute, assist to Sanders, and UCCS would add two more goals from Hinkle and Nicolette Sandoval, assist to Muir and a double assist Taeya Shueppert and Stevenson, to end the first half up 3-0.
  • The second half was more of the same as Jaden Davis and Sanders made it 4-0 in the 47th minute, with Sanders' goal coming off a penalty drawn by Mills.
  • ASU was able to momentarily stop the onslaught from UCCS as Zoe Moses found net off a corner kick by the Grizzlies. But, UCCS added another in the 67th minute off a free kick from Mitsy Ramirez.
  • UCCS outshot ASU 32-4 in the game, including 16-3 in shots on goal.
  • Freshman keeper Mollee Swift added tallied two saves as she is now 9-0-0 this season.
RMAC Record/Standings
  • UCCS remains unscathed through 12 games this season as they sit atop the RMAC with a 12-0-0 overall record and 8-0-0 conference record. Rounding out the top five are: 2) Colorado School of Mines, 3) Regis University, 4) Metropolitan State University – Denver, 5) Colorado State University – Pueblo.
  • With CSM in the second position in the RMAC, this Friday's game has monumental implications for the season going forward.
The Series
  • Against CSM, UCCS has historically struggled as they own a 4-14-1 record versus the Orediggers. The most recent matchup between the teams was a 3-0 shutout loss for UCCS. However, since 2017, UCCS has a 3-2 record against CSM including a clean sweep of all three games in the 2017 season.
  • Against CCU, UCCS has a 14-2-1 all-time record. UCCS has dominated the series recently with a 9-0-1 record in the last 10 games. The most recent matchup was a 2-0 victory for UCCS.
Scouting the Opponent
  • CSM currently has an overall record of 11-1-1, including a 7-0-1 record in the RMAC. This has earned them the second spot in the RMAC and the #14 rank in the nation. The Orediggers have scored 33 goals on 257 shots (126 on goal) while only allowing five this season.
  • CSM also has 19 assists, 64 corner kicks and a shots on goal percentage of 49 percent. CSM has had 16 different players score a goal this season.
  • Individually, Nicole LaTourette and Emi Higgins pace the offense for CSM with five goals each, while LaTourette adds two assists for her team high 12 points. Jordan Barnhart leads the team in assists with three.
  • Goalkeeper Shannon Mooney has played the vast majority of the season for CSM as she has accumulated 35 saves and a save percentage of 87.5 percent.
  • CCU currently has a 4-7-1 record this season, including a 2-5-1 record in the RMAC. The Cougars have lost four games in row entering this weekend. To this point in the season, CCU has scored 16 goals on 128 shots (59 on goal) and allowed 18 goals.
  • The Cougars also have five assists, 47 corner kicks and a shots on goal percentage of 46 percent.
  • Individually, Amanda Lopez and Saige Stock lead the team in goals with three each. Lopez adds an assist for her team high seven points. Sarah Feller is tied with Lopez for the team lead in points thanks to her team high three assists and two goals.
  • Two goalkeepers have split time in net for CCU this season. Ashleigh Maguire leads the team in saves, with 28, and save percentage at 78 percent.
Hot Takes
  • Eight different Mountain Lions scored over the weekend as the depth of this UCCS team was on full display.
  • Three players scored their first goals of the season as freshmen Mitsy Ramirez and Jaden Davis and sophomore Katie Puchino all found the net on Sunday. Those goals mark the first for all three players in their early careers at UCCS.
  • Freshman Kaitlin Hinkle added two goals over the weekend, giving her eight in total this season. For Hinkle, not only does that give her the team lead in goals, it also means she is tied for the second most goals by a freshman in UCCS history, a mark she now shares with her teammate Savannah Mills. The individual record for the most goals by a freshman is nine.
  • Hinkle is also tied for the team lead in points with 18.
  • Mills scored two goals against Fort Lewis on Friday, giving her four so far this season which ranks fourth on the team.
  • Senior Aleesa Muir tallied one goal and two assists over the weekend, giving her two of each so far this season.
  • Freshman Tanner Sanders added two goals and an assist to her season totals over the weekend. She now has seven goals and three assists this season, both of which rank second on the team.
  • With her seven goals, Sanders now has the third most goals by a freshman in UCCS history. She passed teammate Amelia Junge's mark of six with her goal on Sunday against ASU.
  • Freshman Nicolette Sandoval scored her second goal of the season on Sunday as well. She is tied with Muir and Junge for fifth on the team in goals.
  • Sophomore Kendall Stevenson tallied her first assist of the season on Friday when she set up Hinkle for a goal.
  • Freshman Taeya Schueppert recorded her first assist of the season on Sunday, which marks the first assist in her young UCCS career.
  • Redshirt junior Shanade Hopcroft added two assists to her season totals on Friday, giving her a team high six this season. She is also tied with Hinkle for the team lead in points with 18.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Alexis Walker recorded her second shutout of the season on Friday and improved her individual save percentage to 90.9 percent.
Award Winners
  • Senior Aleesa Muir was named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season for her stellar performance last weekend. Muir anchored the formidable UCCS defense as they allowed only one goal, seven shots on goal, and earned their seventh shutout of the season.
  • Muir also played well on the offensive side of the ball as she registered four total points, including her three point performance against FLC (one goal, one assist) which was a season high.

  • The forecast for Golden, Colo. on Friday October 18 shows mostly sunny skies and a high of 63 degrees. There is a slight chance of precipitation and winds are expected gust up to eight miles per hour.
  • The forecast for Lakewood, Colo. on Sunday October 20 shows partly cloudy skies and a high of 54 degrees. Wind is expected to gust up to 13 miles per hour.
RMAC Leaders
  • As a team, UCCS ranks first in the RMAC in goals (39), goals per game (3.250), assists (24), assists per game (2.00), points (102), points per game (8.50), goals allowed (five), goals allowed per game (.42), goals against average (.416) and save percentage (85.7 percent).
  • UCCS also ranks second in shots per game (19.33) and third in shots (232), shots on goal (103) and shots on goal per game (8.58)
  • Individually, six different Mountain Lions rank in the top-10 of various RMAC statistical categories.
  • Shanade Hopcroft ranks first in the RMAC in shots per game (4.09), shots on goal per game (1.73), assists (six, tied), assists per game (.545) and points (18, tied). She also ranks second in shots (45), points per game (1.64), and game winning goals (three) and fourth in goals (six), goals per game (.545) and shots on goal (19).
  • Kaitlin Hinkle ranks first in goals (eight), goals per game (.667), points (18, tied), and game winning goals (four). She also ranks third in points per game (1.50) and seventh in shots on goal (16, tied) and shots on goal per game (1.33).
  • Tanner Sanders ranks second in goals and goals per game (seven, .583, tied for both), third in points (17), fourth in points per game (1.42), sixth in assists (three, tied) and ninth in assists per game (.250).

UCCS Under Head Coach Sian Hudson
  • UCCS is now 45-8-4 under coach Hudson and continues to roll this season at 12-0. The Mountain Lions are also 3-2 against CSM with Hudson in command.
Upcoming Games
  • Next weekend, #1 UCCS only has one game as opposed to their usual two game sets.
  • On Sunday, October 27, #1 UCCS will take on Metropolitan State University – Denver at home. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. inside Mountain Lion Stadium.
