Mountain Lions Fall to the Griffins at Home

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team faced Westminster College inside Gallogly Events Center Saturday evening, where the Griffins topped the Mountain Lions at a final score of 75-60 to stay undefeated in conference play.

Sophomore Abby Feickert and junior Madi Gaibler led the team with 12 points. Gaibler came off the bench to play 29 minutes and provide a key defensive match-up for the Mountain Lions as the UCCS bench came to contribute 27 points in the game. Tatum Tellin also played a major supporting role recording 22 minutes and eight points for UCCS.

The first quarter served as a tone setter for the Griffins as Denise Gonzalez of WC posted 20 points and gave them the lead 29-17. Gonzalez didn't miss as the Griffins shot and made eight from the line to put the Mountain Lions at a 12 point deficit.

In the second quarter, UCCS stormed back to come within a 2-point score two separate occasions within the quarter, but could not bring it even as the Mountain Lions finished 5-16 (31.3%) from the field.

Out-rebounded 18-13 in the second half, UCCS couldn't recover and close the deficit as the Griffins closed out the game finishing nearly perfect from the line (19-21). Westminster's Olivia Elliss came to record a double-double for the Griffins as she scored 19 and bagged 11 total rebounds.

UCCS will look to bounce back as they hit the road to Durango to face Fort Lewis College 5:30 p.m. on Friday, January 11.
