COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – In a game where Dixie State University led over 20 minutes, it was the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team who provided a second half surge to top the Trailblazers at a score of 59-54 inside Gallogly Events Center.
Sophomore
Maddie Golla scored a game high 18 points with
Kelly O'Flannigan right behind her with 13 points. Four different Mountain Lions recorded six rebounds in the game as O'Flannigan was 5-7 from with a team high three assists.
The first quarter was neck and neck between both teams as the Trailblazers jumped out to a two point lead (22-20) heading into the second quarter. But Dixie State built onto that lead in the second quarter recording a 10-0 run and jumping out to as much as a 14-point lead as the Mountain Lions were held to six points in the second quarter to make the score 36-26 in favor of Dixie State.
After halftime, the Mountain Lions flipped the script on the Trailblazers by outscoring them 20-8 in the third quarter. Golla helped spark the UCCS offense by stringing an 8-0 run where she drained two from beyond the arc and pulled up to make a pull up jumper in the paint. The third quarter ended with a Mountain Lion lead 46-44 shooting 44.4% from the field.
UCCS came to hold onto to their lead in the fourth quarter as they made 9-14 free throws to seal the deal with a 59-54 win.
The Mountain Lions improve to 5-7 on the season and 4-2 in conference as they record their second consecutive win, their first back-to-back wins this season.
UCCS will be will be back in action Saturday evening as they take on Westminster College for a home game at 5:30 p.m.
