Mountain Lions Stung by Roadrunners’ Fourth Quarter Rally

DENVER, Colo. – A 16-point lead by the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team at MSU Denver was lost by a fourth quarter rally from the Roadrunners who stopped the Mountain Lions two-game winning streak.  UCCS (8-11, 7-6 RMAC) lost a 60-56 decision Saturday night at MSU Denver (9-10, 8-5 RMAC) in the Auraria Event Center.

The Mountain Lions largest lead of the game came in the third quarter, 43-27, but the Roadrunners began their comeback with less than three minutes to go in the third stanza and went on a 16-1 run.  UCCS trailed for the first time in the game, 48-47, with 6:14 left in the final quarter.

The Mountain Lions made 4-of-5 free throws through the first three quarters, but missed five attempts in the final quarter, making 6-of-11.

The Roadrunners defense held UCCS to six offensive rebounds while five different Mountain Lions blocked Roadrunners shots.

All 10 Mountain Lions that saw action tonight recorded points for UCCS.  Chelsea Pearson and Anna Davern paced UCCS with 11 points each.  Pearson finished with three three-pointers and nine rebounds.  Five of Davern's points came from the charity stripe where she made all but one of her six attempts. Kelly O'Flannigan added eight points, three rebounds and three assists.

The Mountain Lions were successful on 8-of-16 three-pointers and 19-of-51 from the floor (37.3 percent).

UCCS will continue their four-game road trip Feb. 1-2 when they travel to New Mexico Highlands University and Colorado State University-Pueblo.
