Pearson Nets Game-Winning Three at Chadron State

CHADRON, Neb. – Chelsea Pearson scored all 15 of her points from behind the arc, including the game-winning three with six seconds left in regulation to lift the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team to a 66-64 win at Chadron State College Friday night.

Tonight's win moves the Mountain Lions to 8-10 on the season and 7-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  Chadron State drops to 3-15 overall (2-10 RMAC).

The Mountain Lions found themselves down by eight points with 7:34 remaining but went on a 9-1 run over the next five minutes to knot the game at 59.

Coming out of a media timeout and trailing 58-50, Madi Gaibler found Tatum Tellin for a three-pointer.  After a missed jumper from Chadron State, Gaibler nailed a jumper bringing UCCS within three points. A foul by the Mountain Lions resulted in the Eagles making the second of two free throw attempts, but the Eagles fouled Caley Barnard 13 seconds later, resulting in Barnard sinking both shots from the charity stripe.

Two possessions later, Barnard tied the game at 59-59 with a field goal at 2:34.  Six points were scored by both teams in the next 50 seconds with Gaibler hitting two more field goals to give UCCS a 63-61 advantage.

The Mountain Lions forced a turnover by the Eagles with 32 ticks left in regulation and a two-point lead, but UCCS turned the ball over on a throw-in from the sideline eight seconds later, leader to Jessica Harvey hitting a deep three from 23 feet out to give CSC the lead back, 64-63.

On the ensuing possession with 22 seconds left, Kelly O'Flannigan found Pearson on the left side of the baseline where she drained the shot from downtown to give UCCS a 66-64 lead and the win.

Pearson led the Mountain Lions with 15 points behind her career high five three-pointers.  She finished the game making 5-of-9 from long range and four rebounds.  It marked the fifth time this season Pearson has made at least three three-pointers.

O'Flannigan added seven points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals.  Emily Seifert and Gaibler each posted eight points.

Harvey led all scorers with 27 points.  She made all five three-point field goals and all four free throw attempts.

The Mountain Lions shot 45.8 percent from the floor (27-of-59) and 5-of-8 free throws (62.5 percent).

UCCS will travel to MSU Denver Saturday night to take on the Roadrunners.  Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
