Edge Sets Mountain Lions to Home Win over Griffins

COLORADO SPRINGS – Sophomore setter Raelynn Edge posted a season high 51 assists for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team, leading the Mountain Lions to a 3-1 win over visiting Westminster College Friday night at Gallogly Events Center. 
 
Tonight's win marks the Mountain Lions fifth straight win as they improve to 7-9 overall and 5-3 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
 
UCCS dominated the first two sets of the night, outscoring the Griffins 50-20 while never trailing in either set.
 
WC prevented the sweep, taking the third set 25-18 after posting a 72 sideout percentage.
 
The Mountain Lions closed out the match leading Westminster the entire fourth set and led by as many as five points.
 
UCCS went a perfect 10-for-10 and 11-for-11 in sideouts in the first two sets, respectively, before posting a 13-of-25 mark in the third set.
 
Four Mountain Lions notched at least 10 kills against the Griffins, led by Alyssa Brinton's 15 kills.  She added 15 digs and hit .344 from 32 attempts. 
 
Taylor Smith chipped in 11 kills and hit .474 while assisting on four blocks.
 
Lauren Brown and Grace Nelson each accounted for 10 kills.  Brown posted six block assists and had one solo block as the Mountain Lions finished with nine team blocks.
 
Edge's 51 assists reached a season high in a four-set match.  She helped the Mountain Lions hit .297 as a team, as UCCS notched 60 kills on 138 attempts (19 errors).
 
The Mountain Lions will be back in action Saturday against Dixie State University.  First serve goes out at 5 p.m.
