Mountain Lions Net Five Goals for Fifth Straight Win

COLORADO SPRINGS – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team scored five goals Sunday afternoon at home against Colorado Mesa University for their fifth straight win of the season.  The shutout also increased the Mountain Lions shutout streak to four games.

UCCS (6-1-1, 4-0-0 RMAC) has outscored their opponents 18-0 in the last four games, and 21-1 in the last five games.

Sophomore Ella Fischer (Pflugerville, Texas) started the scoring spree at 27:29 when she took a shot from 15 yards out.  The goal was Fischer's first goal of the season and the game-winning goal.

Sophomore Tarah Patterson (Colorado Springs, Colo.) found freshman Savannah Mills (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) on a corner kick.  Mills headed the ball in from the right side in the 33nd minute for a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.

Less than two minutes into the second half, Mills struck again from Fischer's cross pass from six yards.

Senior Anna Gregg (Sacramento, Calif.) netted the final two goals of the game for her second and third goals of the season.  Patterson assisted on both of Gregg's goals.  Patterson passed the ball to Gregg near midfield as Gregg dribbled the ball undefended for a one-on-one opportunity with CMU's goalie. She punched in the shot from the left side of the box into the bottom right corner.

The final insurance goal of the game was netted at 81:02 when Gregg received a cross pass from Patterson and finished the shot from eight yards out.

Patterson's three assists in today's win set a new school record for most assists in a game.

Aleesa Muir (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Patterson led the Mountain Lions with four shots.  All four of Patterson's shots were on target.

Kaylyn Smith (Monument, Colo.) made six saves between the posts for her sixth win and fourth shutout of the season.

The Mountain Lions defense held the Mavericks to six shots on goal and no corner kicks.  CMU's Lauren Thompson led both teams with seven shot attempts.

Six of the Mountain Lions eight corner kicks came in the first half.

After playing their last five games at Mountain Lion Stadium, UCCS will begin a four-game road swing, beginning next Friday, Sept. 28 at Westminster College.  Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
