Volleyball Sweeps Hardrockers for Fourth Straight Victory

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Grace Nelson and Josie Russell accounted for 24 of the Mountain Lions 47 kills Saturday afternoon as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team swept South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, S.D.  The victory marked UCCS' fourth straight win and their third sweep in four matches.
 
UCCS (6-9, 4-3 RMAC) won the match by set scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-17.  The Mountain Lions never trailed in the first set and led by as many as five points.
 
The Mountain Lions hit a solid .284 at the net, committing only 14 errors on 115 attempts.
 
Alyssa Brinton, who eclipsed the 1,000 kill mark on Friday, added 10 kills and committed only two errors on 27 attempts.  She tallied eight digs.
 
Raelynn Edge paced the Mountain Lions with 41 assists to go with her 10 defensive digs.
 
Jordyn Kinsey dug up 18 attacks from the back row to lead UCCS' defensive efforts.
 
SDSMT (3-11, 1-5 RMAC) Dana Thompson led both teams with 19 kills.  She finished with a .326 attack percentage, two aces and eight digs.
 
The Mountain Lions will return to Gallogly Events Center Sept. 28-29 to face Westminster College on Friday at 7 p.m., and Dixie State University on Saturday at 5 p.m.
