Mountain Lions Sting Yellow Jackets in Road Sweep

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Four Mountain Lions hit .400 or better at the net as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team posted a sweep at Black Hills State University Friday night.  The win marked the Mountain Lions third straight win and their first road win of the season.

Tonight's win was highlighted by Alyssa Brinton's 1,000th career kill.  Brinton now has 1,005 career kills, the seventh most in school history.  She needed four kills entering tonight's match, and eclipsed the 1K mark in the second set.
 
UCCS never trailed in the match until the third set when BHSU grabbed their first lead of the night, 8-7.  Josie Russell and Brinton tallied back-to-back kills to regain the lead, 9-8, they would not relinquish.
 
As a team, the Mountain Lions hit .347 behind 47 kills, improving their record to 5-9 overall and 3-3 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matches.  BHSU (5-7, 2-3 RMAC) fell by scores of -13, -12 and -19.
 
Taylor Smith committed only three errors on 20 attempts to hit a match high 11 kills.  Lauren Brown and Grace Nelson added 10 kills each and combined for only three errors on 40 attempts for a .425 hitting mark.  Brown and Nelson also accounted for all three team blocks tonight.
 
Raelynn Edge notched 37 of the Mountain Lions 44 set assists to go with her 11 digs. 
 
Brinton chipped in a match high 12 digs and added nine kills.
 
The Mountain Lions defense held BHSU to a .020 hitting mark and 20 kills.
 
 
The Mountain Lions will head to South Dakota School of Mines on Saturday for a 3 p.m. match.
