Smith Propels Mountain Lions to Sweep over FLC

COLORADO SPRINGS – Junior outside hitter Taylor Smith propelled the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team to a sweep over Fort Lewis College Friday night at Gallogly Events Center.  The win marked the first victory in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action for the Mountain Lions as they improve to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in the league.

Smith recorded a season high for UCCS with 16 kills, 16 points and 32 attempts.  She finished the match hitting .375 to go with her two aces and seven digs.

Raelynn Edge posted 41 set assists, the most by any UCCS player this season in a three-set match.  She chipped in five kills on seven attempts.  Defensively, Edge posted four digs and 2.5 blocks.

Lauryn Shockley accounted for 11 kills and committed only two errors on 20 attempts for a .450 hitting mark.  She added seven digs, just three shy of Jordyn Kinsey's match high 10 digs.

UCCS hit .362 as a team, including an astounding .556 in the third set where they also won 9-of-10 sideouts.

In the third set, the Mountain Lions never trailed and went on an early 17-3 run.  The Mountain Lions run featured three kills by Lauren Brown and Josie Russell, two kills by Grace Nelson, and three total blocks by Brown, Edge and Shockley.

Aly Morgan, who served an ace during the Mountain Lions 17-3 run, led UCCS with two aces.
