COLORADO SPRINGS – The 25
th ranked team in NCAA Division II spoiled the University of Colorado Colorado Springs home opener Tuesday night. The Orediggers swept the Mountain Lions volleyball team, -21, -23 and -17.
The setback moves UCCS to 2-9 on the season and 0-3 in RMAC matches.
Taylor Smith recorded two of the Mountain Lions three aces against the Orediggers. She also paced UCCS with seven kills.
Lauren Brown,
Grace Nelson and
Lauryn Shockley each tabbed six kills. Brown chipped in one solo block and assisted with one more for 7.5 points.
The Mountain Lions defense was led by
Jordyn Kinsey. Kinsey led both teams with 16 digs and added an ace and assist. UCCS finished the match with 37 kills as
Raelynn Edge set the Mountain Lions for 35 assists.
After a 60 percent side out percentage in set one, the Mountain Lions were held to 47 percent in the following two sets to finish the match at 51 percent (39-of-75).
The Orediggers Janice Jin tallied 10 kills on 27 attempts. CSM finished with seven team blocks against the Mountain Lions.
UCCS will remain home this weekend to face Fort Lewis College on Friday at 7 p.m., and Adams State University on Saturday at 5 p.m.
