COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Coming off of a 0-0 double overtime draw Thursday night, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team grabbed their first win of the season on the road against Lubbock Christian with a final score of
2-1.
In the first 17 minutes of the match it would be all LCU as they held the Mountain Lions to no shots, while also recording three shots with the third one finding the back of the net from a Hailey Phipps tip in. Rolling into the 20th minute,
Madison Tominello would answer back for the Mountain Lions by recording her first goal of the season off of the assist by
Tori Maydew to even the score up at 1-1.
After allowing three shots within the first 17 minutes of the match, UCCS would only allow three shots as a defensive unit in the second period. Out-shooting the Chaps 7-3 in the second period, the Mountain Lions would break the tie with Maydew's first goal of the season in the 76th minute to make the score 2-1.
LCU goalkeeper Hannah Wise would lead the game in saves (4), with Maydew leading both teams in shots (4) and shots on goal (2).
The Mountain Lions will continue their road trip as they take on West Texas A&M Monday, Sep. 3rd at 11 a.m. MDT.
