COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team fell to West Texas A&M with a score of 2-1 Monday afternoon.
The Buffs wasted no time in Monday's matchup as Khaline Jacob would score of off Hannah Kelley-Lusk's assist in the first minute of the match to give West Texas an early 1-0 lead. Kelley-Lusk would come back in the 23
rd minute and capitalize off of a UCCS turnover to increase the Buffs lead 2-0.
UCCS would try to put something in goal between the 40
th and 42
nd minute with
Tarah Patterson,
Amelia Junge, and
Fabiola Estrada each recording a shot on goal during that time. Patterson placed a shot on goal through a scrum in front of goal, but Buffs goalie Courtney Dippel made one of her nine saves to keep the Mountain Lions scoreless.
The Mountains ended the half scoreless, but rallied in the 50
th minute with
Tori Maydew's second goal of the season to shorten the Buffs' lead 2-1. UCCS would continue to put the pressure on in the second half by recording nine shots, five of which on target. West Texas A&M and goalie Dippel would keep the Mountain Lions out of goal in the second period to maintain a 2-1 win.
UCCS out-shot the Buffs 16-8 , while the Buffs would lead UCCS in saves 9-3.
The Mountain Lions will be back in action Friday, Sep. 7
th in a home matchup against Fort Hays State at 7 p.m.
