ST. GEORGE, Utah – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team went the distance against No. 18 Tarleton State University Friday night in St. George, Utah, but came up short, 3-2. The Mountain Lions lost a 3-1 decision in the night match to host team Dixie State University.
In the first match of the day, UCCS was down 2-0 to TSU (-24, -16) but stormed back to win set three (25-23) and set four (27-15). Tarleton State won the deciding set, 15-11.
UCCS recorded 70 kills and hit .198 at the net behind 67 set assists.
Grace Nelson tied for match high honors with 19 kills while hitting at a .381 clip.
Raelynn Edge posted 55 set assists and added 12 digs.
Jordyn Kinsey led the defense with 30 digs.
Against the Trailblazers, UCCS won the opening match, 25-21, before dropping the next three sets (-16, -20, -21).
Kinsey posted a match high 22 digs.
Alyssa Brinton tallied a double-double with a match high 21 kills and 11 digs.
UCCS hit .181 for the match behind 56 kills on 160 attempts.
The Mountain Lions will play their fourth and final match of the DSU Volleyball Classic on Saturday against Western New Mexico University at 11:30 a.m.
