GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – May 9, 2018 – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball team dropped the first game of the 2018 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament to Colorado State University-Pueblo Wednesday afternoon, 11-5.
The setback moves the Mountain Lions, who are the No. 3 seed in the tournament, to 27-22 on the season. Fourth-seed CSU-Pueblo improves to 28-21 overall.
The Mountain Lions took a 4-0 lead in the second inning.
Zach Hall led off the inning with a double to centerfield.
Cody Norton hit a single to left field to drive in Hall. Norton, who advanced two bases on two errors, scored an unearned run on a fielder's choice from
Matthew McDermott. Medina closed the inning with a two-run home run to left field for a four run lead.
CSU-Pueblo cut into UCCS' lead in the third inning with two runs before taking a 6-4 lead in the fourth inning. The Pack added five more runs before the Mountain Lions scored their final run in the bottom of the ninth inning from Norton's home run.
Cody Norton recorded two hits, two runs batted in and two runs scored. Medina batted in two runs on one hit and a run scored.
Colin Cicere pitched the first five innings for UCCS, allowing seven runs on 12 hits and four strikeouts.
The Mountain Lions will play Thursday at 3 p.m. between the winner of tonight's 7 p.m. game between No. 1 seed Colorado Mesa University and No. 6 seed Regis University.
