COLORADO SPRINGS – May 1, 2018 – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball team posted an 8-5 win at home against the United State Air Force Academy Tuesday afternoon at Mountain Lion Park. The win improves UCCS to 27-21 as they close out the regular season.
Matthew McDermott scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh. With two outs and the score tied, McDermott hit a single home run to give UCCS a 6-5 lead they would not relinquish.
Zach Hall hit his second home run of the game in the bottom of the eighth to bring in
Jake Sellinger for two insurance runs.
After two scoreless innings,
Efrain Medina gave UCCS a 1-0 lead in the third inning when he led off the inning with a home run.
Air Force answered in the fourth inning to post three runs, but the Mountain Lions quickly tied the game in the bottom of the inning. McDermott hit a single to left field to bring in
Cody Norton, followed by Medina's sac hit to score
Walker Rumsey.
UCCS took their second lead of the game in the fifth inning from Hall's two run home run shot to left field, scoring
Bryan Chapin for the 5-3 lead.
The Falcons knotted the game in the sixth inning off on a two-run double, before UCCS scored three unanswered runs.
Hall posted four runs batted in and scored twice off two hits. Medina added two RBIs and a run scored from one hit. McDermott finished with three hits, two runs batted in and a run scored.
Nine Mountain Lions saw action on the mound with
Colin Pratt earning the win after a scoreless and hitless seventh inning against the Falcons.
The Mountain Lions will await their seed for the RMAC Tournament following this weekend's games.
