Softball Splits at Adams State

UCCS dropped the first game in extra innings before shutting out the Grizzlies in game two

ALAMOSA, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team split their first two games of the series at Adams State on Saturday. The Mountain Lions fell 2-1 in eight innings in game one before shutting out the Grizzlies in the second game, 5-0.

Lexi Belligan gave UCCS the lead in the first game she singled up the middle to bring Whitney Weber home in the top of the first inning. However, Adams State tied it up in the fifth.

The Grizzlies then found the winning run in the bottom of the ninth when Tyler Hays reached on an error, which brought Rebecca Wood homes for the walk-off.

Game two saw the Mountain Lions pounce again early when Taylor Reidhead doubled to bring home Weber and Melissa Martinek.

UCCS added two more runs in the fifth and one more in the seventh.

Cami Duffey picked up the win after allowing just eight hits while striking out three batters and walking just one.

The split puts the Mountain Lions at 14-24 overall and 9-17 in the RMAC.

The series wraps up tomorrow when the two teams square-off at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
