COLORADO SPRINGS – April 29, 2018 – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball team claimed the series win over Colorado State University-Pueblo Sunday afternoon with an 8-6 win, taking the series 3-1.
The win improves UCCS to 26-21 overall and 20-15 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, closing out the regular season for conference games. The Mountain Lions, who have clinched a spot in the RMAC Tournament, will find out their seed following next weekend's games.
UCCS scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to regain the lead, 8-5.
Jeremy Hochmuth put UCCS on the scoreboard with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, followed by
Bryan Chapin's single home run.
Down 5-3 entering the sixth inning,
Tyler Butz hit a grand slam to give the Mountain Lions the lead back.
Matthew McDermott batted in the final run of the game, scoring Tayler Keil.
Joe Slocum started on the mound for UCCS, pitching the first six innings and allowing four earned runs on seven hits while striking out two batters.
Colin Pratt pitched two innings, fanning three batters and holding CSU-Pueblo to one run on two hits.
Will Felton closed the game on the mound, fanning three batters and giving up one hit.
Hochmuth finished with two hits, two runs scored, and two runs batted in while posting 10 putouts.
UCCS will play their final game of the regular season on Tuesday with a non-conference home game against Air Force at 3 p.m.
