COLORADO SPRINGS – April 27, 2018 – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball team hit a season high four home runs Friday afternoon to defeat Colorado State University-Pueblo in the series opener, 14-3, at Mountain Lion Park.
The four home runs also tie a program record for most home runs hit in a game.
The win improves UCCS to 24-20 overall and 18-14 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. CSU-Pueblo falls to 23-18 on the season and 15-13 in RMAC games.
The Mountain Lions scored six runs to open the first inning.
Jamie Crabtree singled down the right side line to score
Efrain Medina. The next batter,
Zach Hall, followed with a three-run home run, his 17
th of the season.
Cody Norton followed a two-run shot to left center, his fifth this season.
In the sixth inning,
Jeremy Hochmuth brought home Medina from a double to right center, giving UCCS a 7-0 lead after two innings.
The Mountain Lions plated three more runs in the third inning.
Jaeden Hegmann tallied a single to left field to score Medina and Matt McDermott. Crabtree closed the inning with a double to center field, scoring Hegmann.
UCCS' lead extended to 13-0 in the fifth inning after Medina hit his seventh long ball of the season. Three batters later Crabtree notched his fourth home run of the season to bring in Hegmann.
The ThunderWolves scored their first run of the game in the sixth inning on a three-run home run.
The final run of the game was plated in the seventh inning when Hochmuth scored on a wild pitch.
Medina finished with four runs scored, two hits and one run batted in and two walks. Hochmuth went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and a run batted in. Crabtree collected four RBIs and scored twice from three hits, while posting 11 putouts. Hall drove in three runs and drew two walks.
Colin Cicere earned the win on the mound to improve to 5-3 on the season. Cicere held the Pack scoreless and fanned eight batters with only five hits allowed.
The Mountain Lions will play host to the Pack Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
