COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Playing in their last home game of the regular season, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team lost a 21-3 decision to the second ranked team in the nation, Lindenwood University, Friday evening at Mountain Lion Stadium.
The game, which was called with 11:52 left in regulation due to strong winds and snow, moves UCCS to 7-9 overall and 2-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Natalie Church recorded her 31
st goal of the year at 26:32 in the first half from
Heather O'Hern's assist to give UCCS their first goal of the game, 1-3.
Brianna Martinez added the second goal for UCCS on a free position shot to cut into the Lions lead, 6-2, with 21:59 left in the first half.
Lindenwood took a 20-2 lead at halftime and added two more goals in the second half before
Kiera Lowe netted the final goal of the game at 11:52.
Vanessa Nelson attempted a team high four shots.
Ellie O'Brien added a team high two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Emma Becker recorded eight saves in goal for UCCS.
LU outshot the Mountain Lions, 31-13, and won 15 of the 24 draw controls.
Lindenwood's Sophie Buelow led both teams with four goals on six shots.
UCCS will play their final game of the regular season at Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday, April 27 at 7 p.m.
