LAKEWOOD, Colo. – After trailing by five runs in the fifth inning, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball team rallied to earn an 11-8 series opening win over Colorado Christian on Friday.
Scott Martinez proved to be the hero by breaking an 8-8 tie with a single up the middle in the top of the ninth inning, driving in Jaime Crabtree and
Jeremy Hochmuth.
Cody Norton tacked on another run by hitting to right field for a single, allowing
Efrain Medina to get home. The newcomer finished with a pair of hits, including a home run for UCCS while leading the team with three RBIs.
On the mound,
Bret Bowyer picked up the win as he improves to 2-1 after working the final inning.
Colin Cicere struck out four batters over the first 4.1 innings of the game.
The win puts the Mountain Lions at 13-12 overall and 7-6 in the RMAC. The two teams will square off twice on Saturday with games scheduled for 12 and 3 p.m. at All Star Park.
