COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team dropped two games on Saturday at home to No. 1-ranked Colorado Mesa by the scores of 3-1 and 12-0.
The first game saw the Mavericks take a three-run lead before
Alex Cook got one back with a home run that went over the left field fence in the bottom of the fifth inning. Cook finished with two hits to lead the Mountain Lions.
However, the Mountain Lions were unable to pull off the upset over the remaining two innings.
Taylor Reidhead took the loss despite giving up just three runs on four hits as UCCS played an error-free game.
The second game saw the Mavericks' bats come alive as they homered twice in the fourth inning, scoring three runs both times.
Kimbri Herring was the winning pitcher for Colorado Mesa as she held UCCS to six hits over five innings.
The two setbacks put the Mountain Lions at 8-18 overall and 3-11 in the RMAC as Colorado Mesa remains undefeated and 24-0 and 14-0.
The two teams will play two more games on Sunday, which are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
