COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Playing the first of three games this week, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs earned a 14-12 win over Saint Michael's on Monday.
After surrendering the lead in the second half, the Mountain Lions reeled off four goals to take a 13-11 lead with 4:23 left on the clock.
UCCS led by as much as five goals on several occasions in the first half, but the visiting Purple Knight scored six straight to take the lead with 17:49 remaining in the second half.
The game proved to be an even match-up as the Mountain Lions out shot Saint Michael's 34 to 30 as well as holding a slight advantage in shots on goal (23 to 20).
Vanessa Nelson paced UCCS with six goals as
Natalie Church added four goals and an assist.
Ellie O'Brien led the way defensively with three caused turnovers as goalkeeper
Emma Becker was credited with eight saves in the win.
UCCS improves to 4-3 overall as they prepare to take on Southern Connecticut State on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
