Natalie Church and Brianna Martinez each scored three goals for the Mountain Lions

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Playing their first home game of the season, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's lacrosse team suffered a 15-11 loss at the hands of Virginia-Wise on Thursday.

Trailing by two goals, Natalie Church scored with 18 seconds remaining in the first to make it an 8-7 game. The momentum didn't carry over to the second half as the visiting Cavaliers reeled off six straight goals to take control of the game.

UCCS scored four of the final five goals, but it wasn't enough against Virginia-Wise who improved to 4-1 on the early season.

Church, as well as Brianna Martinez, each led the Mountain Lions with 5 points (3 goals, 2 assists).

Kiera Lowe added a pair of goals for UCCS who slipped to 3-2.

Defensively, Church and Carmen Plowman each had two caused turnovers.

UCCS will look to get back into the win column when they open their conference schedule Wednesday, March 7 when they host Rockhurst at 7 p.m.
