Softball Defeats Fort Hays State to Win Opening Series

UCCS scored all 11 runs in the third inning to take the win over the Tigers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team picked up their second win of the season, taking the three-game series against Fort Hays State on Sunday, 11-5.

The game lasted through the middle of the fourth inning when the game became official as inclement winter weather moved into the area.

After trailing 2-0, the Mountain Lions scored all 11 runs in the third inning which was highlighted by Lexi Anderson doubled to left center, bringing home three runners.

Both Melissa Martinek and Saleen Quinonez scored two runs for UCCS as Lexi Belligan and Kylie Barnard drove in two runs each.

Cami Duffy got the win after striking out five batters as she improved to 2-0 for the Mountain Lion.

Up next for UCCS is a trip to St. George, Utah where they will play five games in the Dixie State Tournament, which runs Feb. 8-10.
