Baseball Splits Series With Win at Cal Poly Pomona

UCCS defeated the No. 14-ranked Broncos on Sunday, 8-3

POMONA, Calif. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs baseball team earned an 8-3 win over No. 14 Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday to split the four-game series against the Broncos.

UCCS rode a four-run second inning to pick up the win as Bryan Chapin led the team with three runs.

The Mountain Lions managed to score the tour runs all with two out. The spurt started with a Tyler Matheny double, which drove in Chapin.

Zach Hall slammed his second home run of the season to open the scoring in the top of the first inning. The senior has three runs over four games for UCCS.

On the mound, newcomer Bailey Hansen notched the win after his first start by fanning four batter over 5.1 innings of action. Hansen allowed just one run over that span.

The Mountain Lions, who improved to 2-2, continue their road trip next weekend with a three-game series against Central Missouri. The first game is scheduled for Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. MST in Warrensburg, Mo.
