COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Playing their season opener at home, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team split a doubleheader with Fort Hays State on Saturday.
The Mountain Lions took the first game, 8-7, before falling, 14-11, in the second game.
In the win,
Melissa Martinek scored twice for UCCS while also driving in another runner across home plate.
Kylie Barnard blasted the team's first home run of the season, sending the solo shot over the fence to make it a 7-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning.
In the second game of the day, both
Taylor Reidhead and
Lexi Belligan as Reidhead's shot was a three-run blast while Belligan's was a two-run homer.
UCCS wraps up the three-game series tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. at Mountain Lion Field.
