Mountain Lions Outlast Cougars in Final Seconds, 73-70

COLORADO SPRINGS – Trailing by three points with 1:33 left in regulation, Padiet Wang scored six straight points to lead the University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team to a 73-70 home win over Colorado Christian University Saturday afternoon.  The win marked the Mountain Lions third straight victory as they improve to 5-5 on the season and 3-2 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
 
The Mountain Lions comeback started after UCCS fouled the Cougars on a three-point attempt with 1:33 left in the game.  CCU (2-9, 0-5 RMAC) made all three free throws to take a 70-67 lead. 
 
Wang tied the game with a three pointer from Dalton Walker at 1:04.  Ed Bourke grabbed a defensive rebound from CCU's three-point attempt with 36 seconds left.  Walker connected with Wang on an
alley-oop pass for a 72-70 UCCS lead and 13 ticks remaining.  The next trip down the court, Wang grabbed a defensive rebound followed by making the first of two free throws to close out the game with 0.4 seconds left.
 
The Mountain Lions, who led by as many as 16 points in the first half, held a 36-32 lead at halftime but were edged in the second half by one point, 38-37.
 
Wang netted a team high 18 points, making 7-of-9 from the floor and both three-point attempts and chipped in five rebounds and three assists.
 
Brandon Malone missed only two field goal attempts (6-of-8) for 14 points.  Malone, Walker and Blend Avdili combined for 12 of the Mountain Lions 20 assists. 
 
Walker accounted for more than half of the team's bench points, finishing with 16 points on 7-of-10 field goals. 
 
UCCS shot a solid 50.8 percent from the floor, sinking 30-of-59 field goals.  The Mountain Lions added a seven-rebound advantage over the Cougars, 36-29.
 
UCCS will play host to Northern New Mexico College on Monday, Dec. 17, at 7:30 p.m.
