UCCS Downs the Orediggers 73-69 In Conference Opener

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team downs Colorado School of Mines at a score of 73-69 to notch their first win of the season in their conference opener at the Gallogly Events Center.

The Mountain Lions kept their foot on the gas pedal as UCCS held the lead for the entirety of the game, with their largest lead reaching 9 points.

Abby Feickert, Chelsea Pearson, and Anna Davern each recorded a team high 12 points as Davern came to record a team high six rebounds as well in the contest. Colorado School of Mines' Denali Pinto registered a game high 22 points, shooting 7-13 in the field.

UCCS set the tone early as the Mountain Lions drained three three-pointers to jump out to an 11-6 lead in the opening 4 minutes of the game. From there, the Orediggers came to play catch up for the rest of the game as Colorado School of Mines brought the score within 1 point in the third period to have their shortest deficit of the game.

On the game, UCCS finished 18-24 at the line with Feickert finishing 6-6. In the Mountain Lions' five games this season, Feickert is a perfect 10-10 at the line.

Both the Orediggers and the Mountain Lions played a physical match to open conference play as UCCS finished with 20 fouls and Colorado School of Mines finishing with 23. UCCS' physical play turned into 15 turnovers for the Orediggers as the Mountain Lions stayed aggressive on the defensive end.

UCCS (1-4, 1-0 RMAC) will hit the road for their next game as they take on the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks on Friday, Dec. 7 at 5:30 p.m.
