CANYON, Texas – Playing in their first game of the 2018-19 season, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team suffered a 51-84 setback Friday evening at No. 7 West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas.
After a cold start in the first quarter shooting 15.4 percent from the floor (2-of-13), the Mountain Lions warmed up and hit at least 40 percent of their shots in the final three quarters. UCCS was outscored in the first quarter, 27-5, but netted 30 of their 51 points in the second half.
UCCS finished the contest shooting 35 percent from the floor (21-of-60), but were held to one three-point field goal on 13 attempts.
Jae Ferrin led all scorers with 24 points. A graduate student from Westmont College, Ferrin made her debut for UCCS making 10-of-14 from the floor and 4-of-7 from the charity stripe.
Guard
Abby Feickert pulled down a team high six rebounds to go with four points and two assists.
UCCS outscored the WT on second chance points, tallying 11 points to the Lady Buffs six.
Five Lady Buffs scored at least 10 points in their season-opener, led by Reagn Haynes' 14 points.
The Mountain Lions will return to the First United Bank Center on Saturday to face Texas-Permian Basin at 2:30 p.m.
