CANYON, Texas – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team led 60-59 Saturday afternoon with 79 seconds left in regulation, but a jumper by University of Texas-Permian Basin's Sarah Bersang with 13 seconds left in the game gave the Mountain Lions a 61-60 loss. UCCS moves to 0-2 on the season.
The Mountain Lions headed into halftime down 32-27 and faced a 12-point deficit in the fourth quarter, but after a 13-0 run late in the game, UCCS grabbed a 60-59 lead after
Jae Ferrin hit a layup from
Madi Gaibler. Bersang missed a long three-pointer but made the go-ahead basketball to seal the win for UTPB.
Abby Feickert paced the offense with 14 points. Feickert made two of the Mountain Lions three three-point field goals and all four free throw attempts while pulling down three rebounds. Ferrin added 11 points and made 5-of-10 field goals. She ted with
Elly Johnson for a team high six rebounds.
The Mountain Lions held a 36-26 rebound advantage over the Falcons. UCCS outscored UTPB on second chance points, 16-9, and points in the paint, 26-18.
UCCS hit 21-of-50 field goals (42 percent) and 15-of-22 free throws (68.2 percent).
The Mountain Lions will play two exhibition games this week, beginning on Tuesday at the University of Wyoming. UCCS will then take on Northern New Mexico College on Nov. 17 at 5:30 p.m.
