COLORADO SPRINGS – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team will start their postseason bid on Tuesday in St. George, Utah.  The Mountain Lions are the No. 7 seed in the 2018 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament and will travel to No. 2 Dixie State University for the quarterfinal round. The Mountain Lions finished the regular season with a 10-8 RMAC record (12-14 overall).

The Trailblazers, competing in the RMAC for the first time this season, share the 2018 RMAC regular season title with Colorado School of Mines as both teams finished 16-2 in the league.  DSU closed the regular season owning a 21-4 overall record.

Tuesday will mark the third time this season UCCS and DSU have faced each other.  Dixie State won the first meeting on Aug. 31, 3-1 on their home court in a non-conference match.  One month later at Gallogly Events Center on Sept. 29, the Trailblazers bested UCCS again, 3-1.

UCCS closed out the regular season this past Friday at Colorado School of Mines.  UCCS won the first set of the match but the Orediggers earned the win after taking the next three sets.

The Mountain Lions will take on the top blocking team in NCAA Division II.  The Trailblazers, who received votes in this week's AVCA Top 25 poll, lead the country with 3.03 blocks per set, thanks in part to Lauren Gammell's national-leading 1.58 blocks per set.  Gammell also leads the league in total blocks with 148.

Raelynn Edge is one of the top setters in the league.  Edge ranks third overall in assists per set (10.76), and fifth in the RMAC in total assists (1,054).  She sets the ball to Josie Russell who is hitting the ball at a team high .290 clip, the ninth highest mark in the RMAC.   Redshirt freshman libero Jordyn Kinsey is averaging 4.14 digs per set, the 10th most this season in the league.

Edge, Kinsey and Aly Morgan have each played in all 98 sets this season (26 matches), while Edge is the lone Mountain Lion to have started every match.

Seven of the Mountain Lions 12 wins this season have been sweeps. Conversely, UCCS is 3-9 when the match goes to four sets, and 2-2 in five set matches.

Seven Mountain Lions earned 2018 RMAC Volleyball All-Academic honors, announced last week by the league office. Senior Alyssa Brinton was voted to the first team, while Anabela CagenJordyn KinseyAly MorganGrace NelsonJosie Russell and Taylor Smith were named to the Honor Roll.

The winner of Tuesday's UCCS/DSU match will face the winner between No. 3 seed Colorado Mesa University and No. 6 seed Colorado Christian University.  The final four tournament will be held Nov. 9-10 on the campus of the highest remaining seed following Tuesday's quarterfinal round.
