No. 15 UCCS Finish as Runners-Up in RMAC Tournament

GOLDEN, Colo. – The No. 15 University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team faced No. 5 Colorado School of Mines in the RMAC Championship Tournament game where a physical match turned into a 3-0 Orediggers win. The Mountain Lions are the runners-up in the RMAC Women's Soccer Conference Tournament.

The Mountain Lions registered seven shots as Savannah Boarman and Anna Gregg posted a team high two shots each. Senior Evelina Hellgren came into the match in the 20th minute and bagged eight saves as she came off the bench to provide UCCS with a stellar performance in frame.

In the first half, Colorado School of Mines set the tone early as the Orediggers scored in the opening minutes with a shallow cross from six yards out that Giselle Sawaged finished for the 1-0 lead in the second minute. RMAC Tournament MVP Jennifer Kendall ended up with two goals in the match as she registered her first goal in the ninth minute to jump out to a 2-0 lead over the Mountain Lions.

Shortly after, UCCS goalkeeper Kaylyn Smith was issued a red card in the 20th minute following a tackle that was made in order to keep a score off the board. Hellgren entered and finished out the match in frame for the Mountain Lions.

Colorado School of Mines' Kendall came to make her second scoring appearance in the 67th minute as she split the Mountain Lion defense to increase the Oredigger lead 3-0.

The Mountain Lions continued to battle and looked to cut the Oredigger lead in the 71st minute when UCCS found the back of the net, but the score was then called off as UCCS was whistled and called offsides.

UCCS had troubles placing quality shots on frame with a tough Oredigger backline providing consistent defensive pressure and maintaining ball possession throughout the match.

Overall, Colorado School of Mines out-shot the Mountain Lions 24-7 while also holding the advantage over UCCS in shots on goal (13-5) and corner kicks (7-3).

UCCS' Gregg and Tori Maydew were voted to the RMAC All-Tournament Team and were recognized after the match. Gregg recorded one goal (game-winner) and one assist off of 9 shots and six shots on goal. Maydew came to register two goals off of 9 shots and seven shots on goal during the tournament.

The No. 15 Mountain Lions currently sit third in the South Central Region as they aim their sights on NCAA Regionals which start Friday, Nov. 9. UCCS will know exactly where they stand in the NCAA Regionals during NCAA Selection Show that airs at 4:30 p.m. MT. There will be a special showing at Clyde's Pub starting at 4 p.m. to support UCCS women's soccer.
