KEARNEY, Neb. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team came up short Sunday afternoon at the University of Nebraska at Kearney, 61-45. The game was the Mountain Lions second straight game of the weekend on Buckle Court.
UCCS was outscored in both quarters of the first half, 33-19, but the Mountain Lions outscored UNK in the third quarter, 14-11. UCCS started the second half with a 7-1 run behind
Emily Seifert's five points. After UNK scored seven straight points, the Mountain Lions closed the third stanza on another run, this time a 7-3 advantage.
Trailing by 11 points heading into the final quarter, UCCS cut the Lopers lead down to five, 46-41, after Seifert's jumper with 6:38 left in regulation. UNK responded to close out the game on a 15-4 run.
Seifert led the Mountain Lions with 12 points on 5-of-10 field goal shooting, including 2-of-3 from three-point range.
Kelly O'Flannigan,
Caley Barnard and
Tatum Tellin each contributed seven points offensively. Tellin added six points from long range after hitting 2-of-4. O'Flanningan,
Jae Ferrin and
Anna Davern each dished out a team high three assists.
UCCS outrebounded the Lopers, 27-24, and outscored UNK on second chance points, 7-5. Twenty of the Mountain Lions 45 points came from the paint.
The Mountain Lions four made three-point field goals are the second most made this season, and their 41.9 field goal shooting mark also marked their second best this season (18-of-43).
UCCS will open their home season this Saturday, Dec. 1 against Colorado School of Mines. Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. at Gallogly Events Center.
