GOLDEN, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team ended the regular season Friday night at Lockridge Arena in Golden, Colo. with a 3-1 loss to the 2018 Co-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Volleyball Champions, Colorado School of Mines. The Orediggers share the conference title with Dixie State University as both teams finished 16-2 in league matches.
UCCS (12-14, 10-8 RMAC) won the opening set, 25-21, but lost the next three by scores of 23-25, 19-25 and 20-25.
Twenty of the Mountain Lions 61 kills in the match came in the first set.
Grace Nelson, who accounted for five kills in the opening set, finished with 12 kills and hit .290.
Taylor Smith led UCCS with 15 kills and added two block assists at the net.
Josie Russell committed only one hitting error on 20 attempts to close out the match with nine kills and a .400 hitting strike. Defensively, Russell added four digs and two block assists.
Raelynn Edge tallied 50 of the Mountain Lions 58 kills and chipped in 11 digs.
Lauryn Shockley paced the defense with 14 digs while adding eight kills, an ace and an assist on offense.
UCCS posted 56 digs, six aces and five blocks.
Jordyn Kinsey accounted for half of the Mountain Lions six aces and tallied 10 digs.
Taylor Hicken of CSM led both teams with 18 kills, seven block assists and a .469 hitting mark.
The Mountain Lions are the No. 7 seed in the RMAC Tournament. The official bracket will be announced later this evening.
