UCCS’ Second Half Surge Leads to 3-1 Victory over Adams State

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team visited the Adams State University Grizzlies for a brisk fall matchup Sunday afternoon, as the Mountain Lions beat Adams State 3-1.

All of the action came in the second half as both teams held each other scoreless after the opening 45 minutes. Senior Anna Gregg led the way for the Mountain Lions scoring her fifth and sixth goals of the season, while Aleesa Muir added her first goal of the season.

Gregg's goal in the 56th minute gave the match's first score of the game as the Grizzlies answered back in the 63rd minute to net the equalizer and set the score even at 1-1. But Gregg recorded the game-winning goal with her second score in the 78th minute as Ella Fischer provided the assist to set the score at 2-1. Muir then found space in the 83rd minute where she netted her first goal of the season to bring the score to 3-1.

The Mountain Lions dominated all offensive categories as they held the advantage in shots (35-8), shots on goal (16-3), and corner kicks (16-1). UCCS' 35 shots is the most in a single game since Sep. 10, 2010 when the Mountain Lions recorded 49 shots against McMurray.

With Sunday's win, the Mountain Lions now have an overall record of 10-1-1 and an 8-0 conference record. UCCS currently has 24 conference points, tied with Colorado School of Mines who also has an undefeated 8-0 conference record.

In a key conference match, No. 24 UCCS will host No. 5 Colorado School of Mines on Friday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. to play for first place in the conference. Friday's match will be represented as Go4TheGoal night to help show support to those who have experienced pediatric and breast cancer.
