No. 15 UCCS Downs CSU-Pueblo to Advance in Conference Tournament

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The No. 15 University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team faced off against Colorado State University-Pueblo in the RMAC Quarterfinal match Tuesday afternoon, where the Mountain Lions downed the ThunderWolves 3-1 to advance to the RMAC Semifinals.

UCCS' Tori Maydew, Anna Gregg, and Savannah Mills each recorded goals as Tarah Patterson registered an assist in the match. Maydew led the way with five shots and three shots on goal with Mills right behind her providing another four shots for the Mountain Lions.

In Tuesday's conference tournament match, UCCS didn't hesitate in providing the game's first goal as Patterson recorded a shot that was saved and positioned towards the left side of the goal where an attacking Maydew chipped it in for the 1-0 UCCS lead in the first minute.

Then 52 scoreless minutes followed the UCCS goal as CSU-Pueblo opened up the second half with a score of their own. Catching the Mountain Lions out of position, Michelle Moure connected a through ball that Callie Larson kicked in from 18 yards out to tie the match up 1-1.

With the score even at ones, a CSU-Pueblo foul on the left sideline near the 40 yard line set-up a Gregg free kick in the 69th minute. The RMAC Co-Player of the Year took full advantage of the free kick as she placed a strike above the goalkeeper's head for the game-winning goal, her 15th goal of the season.

Mills came back in the 89th minute to give UCCS the 3-1 lead as her upbeat defensive pressure led to a turnover that she capitalized on and netted for the Mountain Lions third score of the match.

UCCS' pressing defense led to the Mountain Lions holding the advantage in shots (17-4) and shots on goal (7-1) over the ThunderWolves.

In the RMAC Semifinals, No. 15 UCCS will face Westminster College on Friday, Nov. 2 in Golden, Colo. at 4 p.m. The Mountain Lions faced the Griffins back on Sep. 28 when UCCS won 1-0 on Westminster's home field.
