No. 17 UCCS Shut Out MSU Denver on the Road 3-0

DENVER, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team shutout the MSU Denver Roadrunners 3-0 on the road Sunday afternoon.

No. 17 UCCS (12-2-1, 10-1-0 RMAC) and the Roadrunners were scoreless until Anna Gregg connected on a 40-yard free kick to put the Mountain Lions up 1-0 and register her ninth of the season, right before the end of the first half. That momentum carried right into the second half as a Tarah Patterson shot was saved and positioned in front of goal where Savannnah Mills finished it off to put the Mountain Lions up 2-0 at 45:44, as Mills recorded her fourth of the season.

The UCCS offense made another appearance in the 65th minute as a Roadrunner penalty set-up a Patterson penalty kick that struck the back of the net for a commanding 3-0 lead over MSU Denver, as Patterson now sits with eight goals on the season. Patterson finished with one goal and one assist to score three points in the match.

Goalkeeper Kaylyn Smith is tied in the conference with seven shutouts this season as she recorded four saves in the road win.

MSU Denver edged UCCS in corner kicks 6-2, as UCCS came to hold the advantage in shots 22-16 and shot on goals 11-4.

With the shutout win, UCCS firmly sits in second place in the RMAC standings at 37 points as the Mountain Lions need to win one out of the next two matches to clinch a home field conference tournament match. The Mountain Lions are looking to secure a home field advantage as they take on Black Hills State University on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m.
