DENVER – One night after defeating Chadron State College on the road, 3-1, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team was handed a 3-1 loss Saturday night at MSU Denver. The setback places the Mountain Lions at 11-12 on the season and 9-6 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
UCCS edged the Roadrunners in the first set, 28-26, behind
Lauryn Shockley's and
Josie Russell's four kills. They each hit .200 on 10 attempts.
Raelynn Edge accounted for 11 set assists in the first set and helped UCCS to a .170 hitting mark.
UCCS trailed 23-21 in the first set before Shockley recorded a kill. Two straight attack errors by the Roadrunners gave UCCS a 24-23 lead. With the set tied at 26, the Roadrunners recorded a serve error followed by Russell's kill to seal the win.
MSU Denver finished the match winning the next three sets, 25-14, 25-12, 25-14.
Russell hit .261 behind 10 kills to lead the Mountain Lions. Shockley added seven kills and eight digs. Edge paced the offense with 33 set assists and contributed seven digs, an ace and three kills.
Jordyn Kinsey led the back row with 13 digs, while
Aly Morgan registered four digs and received 33 serves.
MSU Denver (15-7, 11-3 RMAC) was led by Taylor Duryea's 15 kills and Santaisha Sturges' 14 kills.
UCCS will return home to Gallogly Events Center Oct. 26-27 to play host to Colorado Mesa University and Western State Colorado University.
