CHADRON, Neb. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team overcame a 25-13 setback in the first set at Chadron State College to win the next three sets and their second straight match. UCCS won the second and third sets by scores of 25-28 and 25-19, before sealing the win in the fourth set, 25-12.
With the win, the Mountain Lions have clinched a spot in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament championship.
The Mountain Lions were down early in the second set, 8-3, but stormed back on a 9-4 run to tie the set at 12-12. UCCS controlled the final two sets as they never trailed in either set, including a 13-point lead in the final set.
Alyssa Brinton tied for match high honors with 14 kills. She committed only three errors on her way to a .355 hitting mark. Lauren Shockley added 11 kills and hit .370 while chipping in 11 digs for a double-double.
Four of
Aly Morgan's five hitting attempts went down as kills for a .800 hitting percentage.
Lauren Brown notched five kills and assisted on four blocks as the Mountain Lions blocked 10 Eagles' attacks.
UCCS closed the night with 51 kills and a solid .250 hitting mark behind
Raelynn Edge's 41 assists.
The Mountain Lions will travel to Denver on Saturday for a 5 p.m. match at MSU Denver.
