Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Eric Mason - Sports Information Director

UCCS Blows by CCU, 6-0

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's soccer offense heated up Friday night as the Mountain Lions shutout Colorado Christian University 6-0.

In the first half, UCCS' Alex VonHolle netted the first goal of the night with an unassisted shot that threaded the top left corner of the net from 20 yards out. The Mountain Lions went into halftime only up one score and having completely shutout the Cougars in goals and in shots, but the night was only beginning for UCCS.

UCCS' offense picked up steam in the second half and showed no signs of slowing down as VonHolle, Corey Carabajal, Kai Cormier and Mario Mandel combined to score five goals. Team scoring leaders Carabajal and VonHolle each found the back of the net twice and provided an assist on the evening as they both notched five points in the contest.

Sophomore Luke White came off the bench to connect with Cormier on his first goal of the season (85th minute) and find Mandel for his second goal of the season (89th minute), while adding two shots to his two assists.

UCCS spread the ball all over the field with 13 different Mountain Lions recording shots over the course of the 90 minutes, as Diego Ferradas and VonHolle led the way with four shots each.

Defensively, the Mountain Lions held the Cougars to three shots and one shot on goal, resulting in goalkeeper Scott Jensen's fifth shutout of the season.

The Mountain Lions held the advantage in shots (24-3), shots on goal (10-1), and corner kicks (6-3). CCU came to hold the advantage in saves 4-1.

With 20 points, UCCS trails MSU Denver by one point heading into their head-to-head matchup Sunday afternoon. UCCS will host the Roadrunners at Mountain Lion Stadium for a 1 p.m. start time as the Mountain Lions look to climb the conference standings with a win.
