COLORADO SPRINGS -- After a tough overtime loss Friday night, the University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team responded with a 2-0 shutout win against Colorado Christian University.
All of the scoring came in the second half after the first half of play ended with UCCS out-shooting Colorado Christian 6-3 with four shots on goal.
The Mountain Lions' two goals came from substitutions, as their first score of the night was handled by a
Savannah Boarman to
Taylor Wilpolt connection where Boarman's first assist of the season gave Wilpolt her first goal of the season. Â An
Anna Gregg corner kick led to Boarman leaping up for a header that the CCU goalie saved and redirected toward the right side of the goal for Wilpolt to chip in for the 1-0 UCCS lead in 62
nd minute.
UCCS' second score came at the foot of
Amelia Junge as she subbed in half way through the second half to score her fourth goal of the season on an unassisted shot inside the right post from 10 yards out in the 76
th minute.
Junior defender
Aleesa Muir led the team with three shots as the Mountain Lions out-shot the Cougars 14-4 in the match.
The UCCS backline held the Cougars to one shot on goal as goalkeeper
Kaylyn Smith recorded her sixth shutout of the season.
In the RMAC standings, UCCS currently sits in second with 27 conference points and a 9-1 conference record, as the Mountain Lions have clinched a spot in the conference tournament.
The Mountain Lions finish the rest of the regular season with a three-game road trip, beginning at MSU Denver at 12 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21.
